Air filter system in the M5East tunnel

After FILTRONtec emerged as one of the winners of a worldwide technical qualification competition in 2004, the company received an order from the Road and Traffic Authority (RTA) of New South Wales (NSW) in 2009 to equip the M5East tunnel in Sydney with an air filtration system.

In addition to the planning, delivery and installation of the entire air filter system, the project also included fans, silencers, fire dampers and the necessary electrical, measurement and control technology. Following successful commissioning, the system was handed over in April 2010 and has since ensured clean air in the tunnel, a significant reduction in the previously observed visual clouding, greater safety for road users and less pollution in the area surrounding the chimney.
